<strong>Southern Illinois Metropolitan Planning Organization (SIMPO)<\/strong> was created in 2013 to perform and carry out a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive transportation planning process for the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greateregypt.org\/SIMPO\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/SIMPO-2010-Census-Urbanized-Area-Map.pdf\">Carbondale urbanized area<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in accordance with applicable federal laws, policies and procedures, and with cooperation and assistance of its members, stakeholders, and the U.S. Department of Transportation.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the 2020 census and\/or revisions to the metropolitan area delineation process, the population of the MPA (metropolitan planning area) has fallen below the population threshold required to receive federal and state funds routed to the MPO.\u00a0 As a result, SIMPO was decommissioned on June 30, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The completed studies can still be accessed below.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Completed
