SIMPO hosting Public Meetings for Transit Study

SIMPO has engaged Lochmueller Group to provide a regional transit study of the SIMPO region and its three existing transit operators (RIDES, Jackson County Mass Transit and Saluki Express).  The purpose of the study is to provide an assessment of existing transit service, quantify current and future demand, identify opportunities for system coordination, identify options to meet the projected demand and evaluate the potential for Small Transit Intensive Cities (STIC) funding within the SIMPO area.  The assessment of the existing service has been completed and the report may be viewed or downloaded at this link:  SIMPO Region Existing Transit System Report

As part of this study, SIMPO will host public meetings on March 2nd at the SIU Student Center from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and also at the Pavilion in Marion from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The meetings will be an “Open House” format, the public may attend anytime during the specified hours to ask questions and give feedback regarding the transit systems.

In addition to the public workshops, an online survey has been developed to obtain additional public input.  Please take this survey, even if you don’t currently use the transit systems.  Your input is crucial to the efforts to improve transit service in our region.  The survey can be accessed at this link: SIMPO Region Transit Survey
